Does AmeriPlan Work With My Current Dental Insurance?
June 13, 2008
I can’t tell you how many times I get asked this questions. It is a GREAT question!
Many people think they have all the coverage they need with their current dental insurance or if they don’t have “insurance” feel like AmeriPlan wouldn’t be any use to them. It’s just a discount plan right?
This couldn’t be further from the truth.
In fact, traditional dental insurance plans only give you $1,000/yr in benefits (you’re doing good if you get $1,500), which is what my wife’s limit is. Of course you’ll get the free cleaning twice a year and an annual exam. Yippee!
The problem is, it’s not hard at all to run up a bill that exceeds your yearly cap in one visit… for one person. If you have a spouse and kids you’re definately out of luck. You’ll be paying “Out-Of-Pocket” retail for everything else you need done.
That’s where your AmeriPlan Membership comes in.
Check out Laura Cloose’s story:
“I have really good dental insurance with the military. However, in December of 2006 I went in for a 2nd opinion. I had already had 2 dental cleanings for the year. So I wasn’t sure how much the insurance would cover. I made sure to go to a provider that was in-network for my insurance and also an AmeriPlan provider.
I was given a brief oral exam and bite-wing x-rays. The bill would have been $90 and my insurance was willing to pay $20 of that. Then I called the dental office and reminded them that they had my AmeriPlan card on file as well.
They took the bill back up to $90, took off the AmeriPlan discount and thenmy $20 from the insurance and my bill went from $90 to $40. I was THRILLED! Who wants to pay an extra $30 when you can save with AmeriPlan”
Congrats Laura.
Years ago, just like Laura, my sister-in-law’s father used this exact same technique when he paid for her dental braces. After using AmriPlan and his insurance he only paid $31 for her braces… Treatment and all!
I often tell people it doesn’t matter if you have traditional dental insurance or not… if you don’t have AmeriPlan, you’re paying way too much.
